Spring Checklist

With warmer weather in the forecast, more daylight, and a bit more time on your hands, now is the perfect time to tackle some projects around your property.

We have created our “Spring Checklist” to help you get your property cleaned up after winter and ready for the warm days of summer ahead. Download the checklist HERE.

Let’s review a few…

Tip #3 on our Spring Checklist is wash your windows.

It might seem like a simple task but a lot of people put it off because it can be a very cumbersome chore. The key to making it manageable and successful? Wash like the pros using a strip applicator, sponge, and squeegee. Read more here.

Tip #4 on our Spring Checklist, clean or replace your heating system filters.

Filters not only protect your heating and cooling systems from unwanted debris, they also keep the inside air you breathe free of allergens, increase system productivity, and prolong the lifespan of your heating and cooling systems. Keeping these filters clean and replacing them regularly will ensure these systems continue to function at their best.

While you’re at it, check your heating system for leaks, cracks, and dirt. It is essential to have your heating system regularly serviced, just like your car. Preventative maintenance is your best strategy here. Cracks, leaks, and dirt can lead to irreparable damage to your home and even dangerous carbon monoxide contamination.

Tip #6 on our Spring Checklist: Caulk or fill any areas where insects could enter the house.

Loose-fitting thresholds, cracks in the foundation and exterior walls, utility line entrances, and appliance vents. These are all ways that insects can enter your home. Using caulk or foam (for larger cracks) will prevent insect entry and eliminate your need to use poisonous insecticides.

Tip #9 on our Spring Checklist is: Inspect roof surface, flashing, eaves, and soffits.

At a minimum you should be inspecting your roof annually or biannually, as well as after a bad storm. A neglected roof hides a lot of unseen damages such as infrastructure damage and interior walls and ceilings.

While you are looking up, clean your gutters and downspouts and check for leaks and cracks. Your home’s rain gutters play an important roll in protecting your house. They can prevent damage to the interior due to flooding through the foundation and walls, as well as preventing leaks through the roof due to ice damming.

Gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year, late spring and late fall are typically the best times. While you’re up there, be sure to check for any leaks or cracks. And don’t forget to extend your downspouts adequately away from the house to prevent moisture entry into the basement and potential damage to the foundation.
